Nice find. It’s crazy how many planes from the early days of aviation were underpowered. It sounds like the ocean crossings were all flown at low altitude because it didn’t have the power needed to cruise at its 10,000 foot design altitude. That would be a lot of intense flying if they crossed the ocean at a low altitude like this, but keeping the wing in ground effect would give it a huge boost in creating lift.
I wonder if this is where the Russians got their idea for the Caspian Sea Monsters.

Interesting. I heard it had 610-HP engines, making 3660 HP total, which doesn’t sound like a little, but clearly it wasn’t enough...
